Mad week ahead

It's been a few months since my last really busy time. Back in September / October it was the predicted madness of getting stock in, getting things set up and prepared for the return of the student population.

But coming up is a week that wasn't entirely planned, it's just happened to be this way.

Monday starts just like any other week but it'll be early to bed for me as it's Tuesday where things kick off.

Rhi and I are off to the Internet World show, a free three-day event highlighting the latest in digital marketing and online business. We'll be there to visit exhibitors, sit in on seminars and hear some speeches from the likes of Google, the BBC and The Guardian.

The plan is to help improve some of the Guild's online services. We've already got ideas in the pipeline to make some great improvements to the website and we're really hoping the show will give us some more ideas.

Problem is, we only have a budget that only just covers a one-night stay in London and the train fare there and back. A 5.15am train outta Aber it is then (returning around midnight Wednesday night). Yawn. Don't expect to see too much of me on Thursday!!

Except I can't take the whole of Thursday off. Whilst I'm in London, my team back in Aber will (hopefully) have ordered all the stock we need for the Rugby 7s weekend.

This year, for the very first time, the Union Shop will be making an appearance down on the Blaendollau playing fields selling a number of goodies, from crisps and sweets to a few gifts and clothing. We'll also have baseball caps and sun cream if it's hot... and umbrellas if it's not! Whilst this is a great privilege to be asked to be there, it's also a planning nightmare. What do you take? Where are you going to be? What's the weather going to be like and how is that going to affect sales? Can I get a generator sorted out to power (at the very least) the till system. Is it worth taking chillers for cold drinks, or do I just do what bars do and use bottle bins full of ice? So many questions but, hey, we've gotta give it a go!

Unfortunately, though, my week isn't over. I'm not going to be around to catch the Sunday Sevens fun. Saturday night I'll be collecting my boyfriend from Pembrokeshire and heading back home for a school reunion.

But this is a reunion with a difference. My secondary school is celebrating its 100th anniversary this year. It'll be its last anniversary, however, as the local authority, in their wisdom, have decided to close the school. You can probably tell from my phrasing there that I'm not a supporter of that decision and is something I've blogged about elsewhere.

Anyway... Bank Holiday Monday I'll be returning to Aber to deal with the weekend's remains. It'll then be the countdown to the May Ball - how exciting! :D

Then it'll be sleepy time. Lots of sleepy time.
