Christmas is almost here, I've finished work for this side of the New Year and so it's time to relax and reflect on the ups and downs of the last twelve months.

Living about 200 miles away from my family I only really get chance to head home and see them about three times a year, if I'm lucky.

This Christmas I'm looking forward to seeing my family even more so than previous years as, essentially, it's been a crap year. We've lost family friends, the economic climate has placed great strains on us all, I've said goodbye to a dear colleague who left Aberystwyth for Liverpool, plus there have been a few family things going on that I can't really talk about here.

All I can say is that my partner and his family have been a great rock for me and I know that whilst my own family - whom I miss dearly - aren't nearby, I have people around me I'm able to talk to, joke with and have a shoulder to cry on if needed.

The year's not been all bad, I guess. My mum, dad and grandad have all made contact with a relative we didn't even know existed until October last year and this summer my mum and dad went up to Scotland to pay her a visit. That was absollutely fantastic.

My partner and I, although we were hoping to be at least living together this Christmas, are very happy and have celebrated our third year together and my work has gone from strength to strength.

So what will 2010 bring? Who knows. All I'm hoping for is some well-deserved good news and best wishes for my family and the loved ones I have around me.

I'm also looking forward to the Ryeish Green School centenary celebrations. I, personally, loved school. It was somewhere that helped define who I am. Through working in the school's library I married my love of libraries with computers and then went on to university and took a degree in Information and Library Studies. It was actually me who found the school log book whilst clearing out a poster cupboard and then realised that we were just months away from the school's 90th anniversary.

Sadly, the celebrations marking Ryeish's centenary will also be to mark its closure as the despicable people in the local authority have deemed it necessary to close the school. Unfortunately all the appeal attempts failed so this summer the school will close its doors for the last time after 100 years. It's going to be a great reunion with mixed emotions.

Anyway, if I don't get to post here again before Christmas, I hope you have a good one - a Merry Christmas to you all. xxx
